Oregon Inlet Fishing Report May 12th, 2014
Not as many boats were offshore today and the fishing seemed to be a little bit lighter compared to the full on dolphin blitz that so many boats encountered Friday in to Saturday. Yesterday the bite was softening a little and today was a little bit more of the same. What is great news is another white marlin was caught and released and cobia were brought to the docks today. NOAA has the 24-48 hour forecast with winds 10-15 knots tomorrow and 5-10 on Wednesday, now on to the Oregon Inlet Fishing Report!
The charter boat Point Runner out of the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center was searching for those hungry dolphin that were a bit scattered. All in all they were able to grind through it to land 18 nice dolphin for the crew.
Rock Solid out of Oregon Inlet was the happy charter that was able to put some cobia on the deck. The word so far is that cobia have begun to show up for boats fishing out of Oregon Inlet down to Hatteras Island. We expect the schools of cobia to begin showing up in larger numbers within the coming weeks. If the nice weather holds and continues the warming trend, then the cobia will be here in no time.
The Oregon Inlet fishing report from the charter Obsession had a crew that worked hard to land some really nice gaffer dolphin. Dolphin hitting the deck were upwards of 15-20 pound dolphin, mostly on light standup gear. The charter was also able to land a citation, 36 pound dolphin. Finishing out the day was the catch and release of a nice white marlin, the first white marlin of the year for Obsession.
