Oregon Inlet Fishing Heating Up – Nice Bigeyes

The fishing out of Oregon Inlet and surrounding areas has been strong lately. The charter boat Fintastic has been seeing excellent offshore tuna action mixed with good catches of dolphin. The action overall has been good with many looking forward to the summer months ahead.

The charter boat Fishin Frenzy has been seeing great catches of dolphin and tuna. Fishin Frenzy has been able to get several anglers on some excellent Bigeyes the past week or so including catches of 213, 135, 142, and 105 pounds. [Read more...]

Today offered up quite a mixed bag in the Oregon Inlet fishing report.  Crews today saw everything from good gaffer dolphin and stud cobia to marlin and mako’s.  Weather forecasts seemed to be off a bit again yesterday with some captains seeing higher than expected wind forecasts.  the bite is pretty good across the boards with very nice fish coming to the docks most ever day. Many captains reported an uptick in yellowfin tuna activity and action which is great to see.  As the charter boat Pelican puts it – its hard to decide what to do, do you run offshore and shoot for some yellowfin or sight cast for bruiser cobia.  SO why not go for both.  Was little breezy this morning but the wind laid out later in the morning for some good fishing.  The charter Fishin Frenzy also came across some Orca’s and managed to shoot a quick video – see more down below. A lot of boats went out of Oregon Inlet today and the crews were rewarded with more of the same – nice solid gaffer dolphin that were willing to crush baits.  The yellowfin tuna action was a little light.  Several of the captains noted the change in the Gulf Stream and the need to push upwards of 50 or more miles.  Grass lines were still a bit scattered but productive stretches weren’t hard to find. the Oregon Inlet fishing report for Friday is very light, the weather conditions caused many crews to rethink their plans for fishing.  Even with less than ideal conditions, the fishing has been very good overall.  The cobia have become more consistent inshore and the offshore action is still strong with gaffer dolphin, while yellowfin are being found – and boats putting in the time are finding the marlin and wahoo bites to round out their catches. The weather certainly didn’t help the crews or the fishing, but several boats still fished out of Oregon Inlet and had success.  This weather will affect the oncoming cobia but but not significantly.  The winds are forecasted to continue through Friday before easy up some.  The dolphin is still good and yellowfin is becoming a little more consistent. The much anticipated cobia season seemed to be almost too good to believe today as many boats spotted very good numbers, and several citation were landed. The Oregon Inlet fishing report for offshore was still decent with solid gaffer dolphin being found along the grass. Some charters are finding solid grass lines while others are fishing broken lines.
